EG3 represented at Islamic Countries eGovernment Summit, Dubai, November 2006
EG3 was represented in November, in Dubai at the E-Government in Islamic Countries Summit. With delegates from many countries including Libya, Morocco, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates, the complete range of e-government development was represented in one room!
The Municipality of Dubai was able to demonstrate 100% service e-enablement over the internet, with attention now turning to improving customer services by setting up a network of one stop shops. Integration of the municipality and other government services was also a key theme, demonstrated on the Municipality's impressive stand in the Gitex Exhibition which ran alongside the Summit.
The wide range of approaches and progress reported by other representatives underlined the challenges that confronted them in terms of readiness of their infrastructures and populations.
Whilst many of the Islamic countries are starting and progressing with e-government with structural disadvantages, there is now a developing understanding that e-government is as much about change and improvement, as technology said EG3 Director Stephen Howes. The conference included visiting speakers from many parts of the world. The pursuit of service improvements and efficiencies, demonstrated by a clear business case was identified universally as the most effective route to introducing new technologies.
The Summit was organised by the Datamatix Group of Dubai, UAE.
